In-Studios Are The Best!
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted August, 27th 2008
They really are! There are plenty of bands who I've never had the opportunity to see live who I'd have never been able to hear live were it not for stations like KEXP and KCRW broadcastingwonderful high-quality in-studio sessions for all of us to hear for free. I realized that when the below Broken Social Scene mp3 came on shuffle today - it's without a doubt better than the studio version of that song, and it's one of my favorite...
Bon Iver Covers Okkervil River
From Oceans Never Listen, Posted August, 27th 2008
In the ongoing series of great singers covering tunes from the new Okkervil River album, we now have a beauty. Bon Iver sings "Blue Tulip", one of my favourite tracks from the upcoming "The Stand Ins", which is released September 9 on Jagjaguwar. Superb....

From Both Sides of the Mouth, Posted August, 27th 2008
"Ay tu primo colorado con barba camburada y lleno de ballena inclinadose al sol."I love the idea of coming back with something old and unsurprising...How long has this video been out now? A month? I even got a perfectly prompt heads up about it's release from the kind people at Spinner back when it was first released. I'm afraid I've become a very lazy blogger, and though I tell you all the time how I plan on fixing that, I...
New Felice Brothers video :: "Frankie's Gun" (plus tour dates)
From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted August, 27th 2008
I saw New York's Felice Brothers perform this weekend at Outside Lands, and what an explosion! I never fancied myself as a massive accordion fan, but yeehaw. It's all good. Also, any song that has the lyric, "Got me off a bender after long-legged Brenda died" (and isn't a Dylan song) gets props in my book. See my original write-up about them here, and a slew of headlining tour dates were announced today:FELICE BROTHERS TOURSEPTEMBER 200804 - Burlington, VT -...
Banksy in New Orleans
From Headphone Sex, Posted August, 27th 2008
Some fantastic new Banksy pieces up in the States. Some seem a response to a government clean up guy known as the 'Grey Ghost' who's been indiscriminately covering any graffiti in New Orleans with ugly grey paint. These are great:

Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl - 08.24.08
From Speed of Dark, Posted August, 27th 2008
The Best Band on the PlanetYou can argue with me about that title, but you aren't going to change my mind. I go for months without listening to Radiohead because, frankly, like having dessert first, they spoil my appetite for anyone else. But then when I put one of their albums on, it's like, Oh yeahhhhhh, THAT's why they're the best! The melodies, the lyrics, the topics they attack, the arrangements, the obsessive attention to detail--it all...
That said
From DISCONAP, Posted August, 27th 2008
We just got the debut Friendly Fires album, and we like it, so here's to that. The album is called Friendly Fires (originality--you're doing it wrong), and it features a not-as-good-as-the-demo version of "Photobooth" BUT also contains their pants-pissingly AMAZING new single "Jump in the Pool", which obviously should have been the title of the album.Obviously....
Singles going steady 27: The Flaming Lips
From The Daily Growl, Posted August, 27th 2008
Time I got back again to raking through my old CD singles. It's been a while.Next CD I come across is The Flaming Lips. And this is value for money. Now kids, please don't ever buy music on the primary basis that it offers value for money - that really isn't a good criteria. But it's sometimes a nice bonus. In this case, it's because back in 2003 Oklahoma's finest released an EP thingy that not only boasts seven tracks,...
