Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson-Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson
From Oceans Never Listen, Posted August, 12th 2008
I own a record that does not contain a weak track. In fact, it does not contain a track that I could call merely good. Very good would be a starting point, which leads to greatness. Gallops to greatness, actually. Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson has created a piece of music that is stunningly great. In fact, if not for Wolf Parade this would be my album of the year, so far. It is that good. This self titled piece of...
Brand new "fun" from Nate Ruess of The Format
From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted August, 12th 2008
When Arizona intelli-pop band The Format broke up a few months ago, a little part of my heart broke. I loved those guys; the homemade "Format Sunny Supermix" is still a superstar on my car radio, all summer every summer.Well, hooray hooray for some good news before this summer ends: lead singer Nate Ruess has a new band, called simply "fun." Strike two on the not good for Googling, guys. They're trying to undermine my whole system of band data...
Conor Oberst @ Grimey's Records - Nashville, TN, August 8, 2008
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted August, 12th 2008
I showed up to Grimey's at five expecting to be more than fine. The Conor Oberst in store didn't start for an hour and who could be here at five, people have real jobs still, right? I wanted to enjoy some solitude, buy some vinyl, and generally just chill. When I arrived I knew I was a fool. Parking was nowhere to be found off 8th Avenue, and the building was already nearly full. At the end of the day...
Time Travel Tuesday: Steve Miller Band 08.06.08
From Speed of Dark, Posted August, 12th 2008
photo from official websiteRight after Joe Cocker, The Steve Miller Band took the stage at the Nokia Theatre. Having grown up with the music of Steve Miller almost perpetually playing in the background, I was pleased to discover that while the band members' appearances had definitely changed, their voices still sounded amazing, and it was obvious that they still loved to perform. Steve himself could not stop smiling, either at various bandmembers or people in the pit upont....
