By Hera, that's a great cover!
From Cable and Tweed, Posted July, 31st 2008
As much as I like the Kingdom Come Wonder Woman, I rarely read her monthly title. However, it looks like Wonder Woman #25 (due October 8) will make it home. I absolutely adore its cover by Aaron Lopresti:Right on, girl.Pre-order the issue from Things From Another World or visit your local retailer....
My New Favorite Single: Esser's "Headlock"
From Sound Bites, Posted July, 31st 2008
Did the Collective We ever decide what the Song of the Summer was? This at least gets my vote for Single of the Week. MP3: Esser - Headlock London singer Ben Esser (who was one third of LadyFuzz if you......

[The Rumble Strips]
From Both Sides of the Mouth, Posted July, 31st 2008
"Just 'cause you think it, don't make it so. Drive you to drink, it won't let you go."Next up in line is a band with a lot of brass (Ha! Just be glad I didn't pull the "Let's get ready to..." well you know phrase). With only a trumpet and a saxophone to fill that criteria, don't expect a whole section, but those sounds are just completely integral to the ska-influenced identity of the Rumble Strips. One name you always...
The War On Drugs
From Speed of Dark, Posted July, 31st 2008
On the recommendation of The Torture Garden blog, for the past several days I have been listening a lot to Wagonwheel Blues, the debut album by Philadelphia's The War On Drugs that was released following their signing to Secretly Canadian last month. Start with Arcade Fire, take out Win Butler and add nasal, Tom-Petty-like vocals (by Adam Granduciel), then carefully remove the most blatant layer of Springsteen, and you have an idea of what this band sounds...
Free music from a leading purveyor of overpriced tounge-in-cheek fashion
From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted July, 31st 2008
Is it just me, or do you always kinda secretly begrudge how effortlessly you can be converted to commercial promotions when they include a free download of songs you like? Following that infectious Converse track and the Cartier compilation, the summer of free music continues with the folks wanting to outfit your urban experience. It's okay to feel a little dirty.Urban Outfitters' upbeat summer mixtape tracklist is pretty solid -- lots of bands on here to love, songs to rawk out...

Neutral Milk Hotel/Music Tapes' Koster's Christmas in July
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted July, 31st 2008
Well, folks. You all know I REALLY love Christmas music, so you can imagine how excited I was when Neutral Milk Hotel member and the man behind Music Tapes, Mr. Julian Koster announced a Christmas album ridiculously early (Today). The Singing Saw at Christmastime is basically exactly what it sounds like, and Stereogum has a preview. I can't wait until August/September/October when people start announcing their Indie-centric Xmas albums, compilations, etc....Listen at Stereogum....
My Week Continues To Be Ridiculously Bad
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted July, 31st 2008
I was supposed to have web hosting worked out today for mp3's. I don't.I was supposed to have my car back today from the shop. I don't.I was supposed to have all the glass out of my foot (I ironically stepped on glass moments after making my post about my bad week last week)...At 8 last night I was digging in my foot with a boiled thumbtack trying to pry glass out of it. (It worked after lots of blood...
There's a new Keane single on the horizon
From DISCONAP, Posted July, 31st 2008
...and we're pleased.Keane have finally gone and designed artwork that looks the way their music sounds: RETARDED AND AMAZING AT THE SAME TIME.Keane are one of those bands that have accomplished the astonishing yet financially and comemrically unviable feat of being really, really good yet fooling everyone into thinking they're shit so they can basically fuck off and do whatever they want musically with no expectations or pressure. They're frankly the best Adult Contemporary band out there (with Tigercity coming...
Meet Dannyhott, your new favorite thing ever
From DISCONAP, Posted July, 31st 2008
This is Dannyhott. That was Dannyhott, and 11-year-old boy with a YouTube channel, a hope and a dream, performing a daring "Damaged"/"Feedback" medley in the comfort of his bedroom. We'll bet anything that his bedroom is in Florida but we digress. While we're wary of the Walt Disney Company being basically a government-fronted cultural infiltration op (not kidding), why they're not knocking on Dannyhott's front door this very instant we have no idea. Obviously, this child has more going for him than...
