Diplogold

From Covert Curiosity, Posted July, 23rd 2008

The picture up above is an action shot of the 2008 pop sensation Santogold getting down at SXSW, backed by the ever-productive DJ Diplo. I was one of the tiny specs in a large audience that showed up at the Fader party to catch the show, though I had absolutely no clue who/what Santogold was. Mind you this was a good month prior to the release of her debut album, which has since made its way near the top...

Wilco plays someone else's songs, Part II

From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted July, 23rd 2008

Hey do you like Wilco? Of course you do. And most everyone likes covers (especially me). This is part two of a jawdropping treasure trove of lovingly-assembled covers that Wilco has performed in concert over the years. In this batch, you get covers of everyone from Neutral Milk Hotel (!!) to Herman's Hermits, an even better version of that lovely lovely "Be Not So Fearful" song that I posted a while back, and you also get to hear Tweedy's improvisational singsong...

"Cause the feelin's so good, you know I'm gonna work it all out"Every now and again, I'll find something to look into only to find out that they're no more. They're my found too late finds - groups that have since gone on to do other things. Rather than letting them just erm, rest in peace, I thought I'd play Frankenstein and put a bit of life back into them. Resurrected today - Bridge Club.Bridge Club is a Minneapolis-based trio...

Siren Fest '08

From Sound Bites, Posted July, 23rd 2008

There are times -- when the sweat is pouring down your back, the smell of garbage is pervasive, the line for Nathan's is too long to bother (same for the icky porta-potties) -- that schlepping all the way out to......

The Worst Week Ever! (MP3 Issues, Car issues, Health issues)

From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted July, 23rd 2008

You may be wondering why none of the mp3's are working here on HTFAF today. Through a mixup involving one file I wasn't even sharing, that was being stored on my webspace my Dreamhost account was canceled (Donate to the new hosting fund by clicking that button to the right if you feel like it). We're working on finding a new and more dependable host for mp3's and should have it resolved in the next few days, in the meantime...
