Jarvis Cocker | Music Hall of Williamsburg | 7.21.2008

From Sound Bites, Posted July, 22nd 2008

Seeing Jarvis Cocker makes you realize that almost all other bands are chumps. This is how it's done. This is a show. This is charisma. This is It. You can't take your eyes off him. My #1 show of 2008......

Rain, Rain, Please stay as long as you'd like

From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted July, 22nd 2008

This is going to strike a chord of concern for my mental well-being with a lot of you, but i really love rain and inclimate weather. Sure, sunny and seventy-five is great and I love it as much as the next guy, but it gets boring, hot, and terribly unexciting. For this reason, I love storms, which is why I was overjoyed to see that every single day in the 10 day forecast for here in Nashville includes rain and...

Time Travel Tuesday: Weekdays

From Speed of Dark, Posted July, 22nd 2008

I haven't been talking much about Tim Young's Contrast Podcast. I participate almost every week and it's a great musical treat whether I'm there or not. If I don't participate, it's not because I can't think of a song that fits the theme; it's usually because I think of too many songs and can't make up my mind! Indecisive = me.The theme this week, Contrast Podcast #121, submitted by another blog friend, Marcy of Lost In Your Inbox,...

Torche: Meanderthal

From Covert Curiosity, Posted July, 22nd 2008

Torche: MeanderthalIt is always a delight to discover an awesome new band when you least expect it. Such was the case at The Mohawk show with Boris, Torche and Clouds. I went to see Boris (and they were great having never seen them before) but it was Torche that had the most honest and brutal set of the night. They were just so precise, so rocking and the drummer had the biggest crash cymbal of all time. They knew what...

Wilco plays someone else's songs

From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted July, 22nd 2008

Hey do you like Wilco? Of course you do. And most everyone likes covers (especially me). This is a jawdropping treasure trove of lovingly-assembled covers that Wilco has performed in concert over the years. In this batch, you get everyone from Bob Dylan to the Replacements to The Stooges. Oh, and a sweet hip-hop version of She's A Jar, bitch.WILCO: SOMEONE ELSE'S SONGS [via]DISC ONE Listen to Her Heart (9/10/95): Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Peace, Love and Understanding (4/17/96):...

From Cubik Musik, Posted July, 22nd 2008

Primitive World

From Headphone Sex, Posted July, 22nd 2008

Phew, well it's been a rather hairy week, with my newish Vista PC suddenly deciding to not recognise my external hard drive - containing all my music. I'm rather embarrassed to admit quite how much is on there, but suffice to say it would have been slightly annoying had I lost it all.

Fortunately though, after a bit of messing round with drivers it seems to be back in business. Relief all round...
