Mount Eerie To Tour Australia

From Oceans Never Listen, Posted July, 21st 2008

October just got a whole lot better. Phil Elverum is coming to Australia. According to his website, he is here for a short tour of dates including a slot on the Great Escape Festival. For those of you in the dark, Mr Elverum is a singularly talented and idiosyncratic performer who lives in Anacortes, Washington. He previously recorded as The Microphones and as such released some ground breaking music including "The Glow Pt. 2". This amazing album was recently given...

2 weeks until Radiohead

From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted July, 21st 2008

In a matter of two weeks I will be fulfilling a life-long dream in seeing Radiohead. Jeff, Ethan, & I will be driving to Indianapolis Sunday morning and by the end of Sunday night I will have checked something off my list of "want to-do's." That's quite a satisfying feeling, especially when the more videos I watch and reviews I read seem to suggest the band's show is better than it's ever been, and their energy level at an all-time...

[The Finches]

From Both Sides of the Mouth, Posted July, 21st 2008

"Before I'm gone, I'd like for all my friends to join up with me in song, so when I go, my friends can nod their heads and say we're glad she's moved on."Not having had the opportunity to join up in song, I'm really not in a position to say I'm glad they've moved on. Scribbled quietly on their site are the words "RIP February 2008" - say it isn't so! It's hard to be excited about something under the...

Mile High Music Fest - Saturday

From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted July, 21st 2008

The inaugural Mile High Music Festival brought massive-scale concert enjoyment to Colorado this weekend. An estimated 75,000 festival attendees from all over the nation and beyond (Canada?) descended on the endlessly stretching, sun-baked green of the fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on the eastern outskirts of Denver. My hundred-degree Saturday started a bit belated (pitchers of cider called to me on a shady patio and I missed a few early day bands) with my favorite performance. The astoundingly rich Josh...

The Secret is Out

From Covert Curiosity, Posted July, 21st 2008

The Secret Machines, minus Ben Curtis, are back. They (Brandon Curtis and Josh Garza) are working on a new album, playing some shows, debuting new material, doing the whole thing. This is all recent news to me, as last I heard The Secret Machines were no más, so I kind of stopped paying attention. I was always a big fan of their first EP (September 000) and their debut album (Now Here Is Nowhere) especially, but they kind of lost...

Spider-Man and Iceman: Sports Enthusiasts

From Cable and Tweed, Posted July, 21st 2008

We've already explored Robin's pitching propensity, but now it's time to see the athletic prowess of another pair of costumed adventurers. Witness Spider-Man and Iceman as they go bowling (or curling?) with especially disagreeable pins:Peter and Bobby put Sam Bullit's thugs on ice (yeah, I went there) in Amazing Spider-Man #92 by Stan Lee and Gil Kane, reprinted in The Death of the Stacys hardcover....
