Tilly and the Wall on tour, play Variety Playhouse 7/24
From Cable and Tweed, Posted July, 4th 2008
I never expected to say this, but Tilly and the Wall have released one of my favorite records of the year. Their O on Team Love is crafted from generous helpings of pop, rock, and twee, and the whole things comes together beautifully. There are moments of Joan Jett rock alongside synth-pop a la Mates of State, with lots of high energy and '70s radio shimmer. A damn fine album.Tilly and the Wall - Pot Kettle BlackTilly...
Bruce Springsteen Tribute Night @ The Vanguard
From Oceans Never Listen, Posted July, 4th 2008
Tribute nights can be problematical. I mean, the artist covered has to be worthy of it in the first place, and if he or she is, then you need artists of sufficient musical ability to do the material justice. Whether they stay strict to the original version or offer up a fresh interpretation. So when the tribute is to Bruce Springsteen, you certainly have plenty of great material to choose from, but also music that requires a certain amount of...
[The Blood Arm]
From Both Sides of the Mouth, Posted July, 4th 2008
"Well, here we are without a deck of cards. I tried so hard to disregard the questions, dodge the past, and make every moment last."With yet another band I've been suddenly reminded of, I must sound like a pretty forgetful person, and I pretty much am. I don't know what prompted me to remember these guys (and gal), but before today, I honestly haven't sat down and listened to the Blood Arm since I first caught wind of them at...
Have You Heard the American Sound?
From Sound Bites, Posted July, 4th 2008

Let's get cool in the pool
From The Daily Growl, Posted July, 4th 2008
As my last post may suggest, I've been listening to a bit of High Places this week. The bonus has been that every time the end of Canary plays out, my iTunes here at work slips right into Cool in the Pool by Holger Czukay. It's become a much welcome treat in all it's oddball glory, with squeaky voices, rolling grooves and comedy Balearic twanging all adding to the appeal. Although, in this hot weather, it does highlight the...
