Wolf Parade: At Mount Zoomer
From Speed of Dark, Posted June, 26th 2008
Poster by Spencer?s sister, Zoë Krug SatherIndie Mom said to me last weekend, "I've been listening to the new Wolf Parade album (At Mount Zoomer), and I just....don't...like it. Maybe I need more time with it." Of the two of us, she has been much more a fan of that album than I am, although I like several of the songs on it very much. Apologies also had more songs--12--than At Mount Zoomer's 9 tracks, so there...
Monkey Swallows the Universe - "Jimmy Down the Well"
From Cable and Tweed, Posted June, 26th 2008
Matthew from Song, By Toad turned me on to Monkey Swallows the Universe some time ago, and this week I can't get them out of the rotation. "Jimmy Down the Well" in particular has demanded repeated plays. It's melodic and memorable, much like the rest of the album, but has a certain something that I can't resist. Although the lyrical content isn't exactly chipper the song is sure to get your foot tapping.Monkey Swallows the Universe -...
Kadane Brothers, Crystal Antlers
From Covert Curiosity, Posted June, 26th 2008
This is a belated heads-up, but the Kadane Brothers, who led the indie rock band Bedhead to quasi cult status in the 90's with a handful acclaimed albums, will be performing at Emo's tonight. In their heydey, before disbanding in 1998, the brothers worked with Steve Albini (Pixies, Nirvana, etc.) and were label mates with fellow Texas music bretheren The Butthole Surfers. Post-Bedhead, they formed The New Year.Their sound was/is often compared to certain shades of the Velvet Underground,...

#93.6 BON IVER - Skinny LoveUploaded by lablogothequeAbsolutely jawdropping. This made the back of my scalp feel hot and tingly when I watched it, and the breakdown at the end always stabs me full in the gut.The whole Blogotheque/Take Away Shows session with Bon Iver is definitely worth some of your time today. Bon Iver plays Outside Lands in August....
Wolf Parade - "At Mount Zoomer" Analysis
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted June, 26th 2008
I bought Wolf Parade's debut LP Apologies to the Queen Mary on a whim on New Year's Eve 2005, a few months after it was released. That would turn out to be my favorite musical purchase of the year, as narrowly as it slipped in there, and I've been waiting for the follow up ever since. After three years of side projects, it's finally here, I've finally spent some time with it, and I can finally say it's one of...
