Rhythm & Sound
From Headphone Sex, Posted June, 25th 2008
Last night in the Roundhouse I watched four unassuming looking folks make the most monumental noise i've ever experienced. I'm sure you've heard by now about the earplugs distributed on the way in, but I still wasn't prepared for the 20 minute physical onslaught of 'You Made Me Realise' at the end of My Bloody Valentine's set. It was like being strapped to a jet engine, and quite an experience....
Neil Halstead and a new vinyl giveway from Brushfire Records
From I am Fuel, You are Friends, Posted June, 25th 2008
British musician Neil Halstead has produced some lovely, starry-night music in his years of tunes; with Slowdive, with Mojave 3, and solo. The first time I probably heard him was on a surf movie soundtrack, or something that conjures up a sparkling ocean in my mind. It's gorgeous, melancholy, sleepwalking music with a strong support of melody holding it up from slogging around in the dreamland. This song is the first listen from his forthcoming Oh! Mighty Engine album (out July...
2007; A Look Back; A Reflection; Or Why Wolf Parade Have My Heart On A Platter...
From Oceans Never Listen, Posted June, 25th 2008
Oh, Wolf Parade, you had me at Soldier's Grin. How does a band come to exist so perfectly? Truly, they have perfected the art of the rock song and 2008 belongs to them and no one else. They manage in each and every song to make me feel excited and rewarded. This year has existed of counting down the days until their second album was released and I am pleased to say that "At Mount Zoomer" is an unqualified success....
Unicycle Loves You - 'Unicycle Loves You'
From Cable and Tweed, Posted June, 25th 2008
I have to say, I really like when a record comes out of nowhere and really impresses me. The most recent album to do so is the new, self-titled album from Chicago's Unicycle Loves You. They have a silly name but a darn good sound, pulling from umpteen genres of rock. They're infectious, high-energy, and their album has settled nicely into my regular rotation. Fans of Velcro Stars, Quiet Hooves, and adventurous pop-rock should eat this...

Barack Obama's iPod = So cool
From Its Hard to Find a Friend, Posted June, 25th 2008
No, you heard me correctly, Barack. Kudos to you, sir, on possessing one of, if not the coolest iPod in presidential history! The Democratic nominee for the Presidency of the United States of America sat down with Rolling Stone to talk music and named a few favorites like Dylan, Springsteen (both Obama supporters), The Stones, Elton John, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Coltrane, and Miles. Seriously, could you score any more cool points? In other news John McCain told Reader's...
